The main thing you can do with the audio editing tool BeatCleaver is slice up beats – or to put it in other words, you can cut an audio track into several smaller bits. You can manually select where you want to slice the audio track or you can let BeatCleaver automatically slice it up into 4, 8, or 16.

BeatCleaver is available for Microsoft’s Windows operating system and for Apple’s Mac OS X. I don’t know about the Mac version, but the Windows version is incredibly easy to get up and running. After completing a simple installation process you can get started with BeatCleaver. No problems, no hassles.

The interface is just what you would expect from an audio editing tool. Load an audio track (MP3, M4A, WMA, FLAC, WAVE, or AIFF) and it will be presented as waveform on the application’s interface (it must be mentioned here that several demo tracks come bundled with the application). At the top of the interface there’s a File Menu and a toolbar with buttons to play the track, edit it, slice it, and more.

You can load one of the following supported formats into BeatCleaver: MP3, M4A, WMA, FLAC, WAVE, or AIFF. After you load a supported audio file, you can use BeatCleaver to perform the following tasks: play the audio file; edit the audio file (fade in, fade out, gain, normalize, mute, and more); slice the audio file (slice at cursor, slice in 4, slice in 8, and more); save slices as MIDI; time stretch and pitch adjust.

BeatCleaver is not free, it is only free to try. The trial version allows you to do everything except save your work. The save and the export functions are disabled.

Slice up audio tracks with the greatest of use! BeatCleaver puts such functionality at your fingertips.

Pros

BeatCleaver is available for Windows and Mac OS X. The interface is familiar; you should immediately feel at home, especially if you used an audio editing tool in the past. Support for multiple audio formats is provided: MP3, M4A, WMA, FLAC, WAVE, AIFF. Use BeatCleaver to play, edit, and slide audio files.

Cons

Trial limitations: save/export is disabled; nag screen.
